Voyager Reed quintet

A selection of recordings by Voyager Reed Quintet, based in New York, NY.

Alissa Voth: Deiopia

This is a gorgeous piece I commissioned from composer Alissa Voth.

This work is a musical reflection of the comb jelly, Deiopea kaloktenota, a bioluminescent sea creature named for the sea nymph Deiopea from greek mythology. It’s a beautiful soundscape, featuring lots of ornamentation and multiphonic ebbs and flows.

Khachaturian: Piano Concerto in D-flat

The incredible bass clarinet solo from the second movement of Khachaturian’s rarely performed piano concerto. This was from a performance celebrating Armenian Independence Day in 2023 at St. Vartan’s Cathedral in New York.

MAdelyn Byrne: Flow

Flow is a wonderful work for clarinet, viola, piano, and fixed electronics inspired by the work of Annie Dillard and Mary Oliver. This is from a performance with the New York Composers Circle in Sorca Hall at Opera America in NYC, in April 2023.

Hubert Howe: Harmonic Fantasy No. 6

This is a fascinating work for clarinet and fixed media exploring the color of the clarinet in all registers flowing in and out of pure overtones in an electronic track.

This was the world premiere of the piece, from a performance with the New York Composers Circle in Sorca Hall at Opera America in NYC, in April 2023.

Nadine Silverman: Elegy for Time Gone By

This fabulous duo for clarinets was inspired by fragments of works from cancelled performances during the COVID19 pandemic.

This was from the world premiere of the work in Schare Recital Hall at Rutgers University.

Andrew List: Five Miniatures for Clarinet Solo

Andrew List wrote Five Miniatures of Clarinet Solo in 1995 for clarinetist Chester Brezniak, and envisioned the work as a suite of character pieces in the spirit of Robert Schumann. Each movement has a different emotional statement and character, some like an opera scene, others like a dance. While each piece has a separate idea, some motives spin throughout the entire work.

Kyle Henkel: Whata-Bass Clarinet!

This is the latest movement of my collaboration with composer Kyle Henkel on a series of Bass Clarinet miniatures. The full playlist can be found here.

From kylehenkel.com: Whata-Bass Clarinet! A Menu of Miniature Solos is a collection of every Texans’ favorite orange & white fast food restaurant menu items. It’s no surprise that if you grew up in Texas or you know someone from Texas, you or that person has brought up the iconic orange & white tented restaurant and have made claims about how it is far superior to its Californian rival.
With this work, you will be able to sink your musical teeth and reed into this menu of guilt-free, cheat day music!
